Jerusalem Day - If I Forget You !

The real divide in Israel between secular and religious is emphasized during Jerusalem Day.Some people are willing to give up the eastern part of Jerusalem claiming that anyhow no Jew lives there and anyhow the rest of the world does not recognize united Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Our sages when they were in exile for more than 2000 years reminded us of Jerusalem “If I forget Jeruslaem let my right hand be forgotten”. Whenever we get married we proclaim our bond with Jerusalem, we pray three times a day for the rebuilding of Jerusalem. Remembering Jerusalem and rebuilding it is part of the Jewish heritage, and now after 40 years there are people how just want to forget. All the nations of the world throughout history understood that whoever rules Jerusalem rules Israel, as Jerusalem serves more than just a capital of a state but a point that connects heaven and earth. We must strengthen the memory of Jerusalem and remind ourselves and the rest of the nations, that the rebuilding of Jerusalem and uniting it will serve the rest of the nations too as it was in past times.. I’ll leave you with a beautiful song by Matiyahu in 40 years to Jerusalem United.
